Adoption Process & Fees

Our Adoption Process

Before you begin the adoption process, please be aware of the following:

  • For the safety of our cats and adopter’s children, families with children under 5 years of age will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Foster and Forever does NOT accept applications from outside the state of Connecticut.
  • Foster and Forever DOES require a home visit prior to finalizing the adoption process. A volunteer from Foster and Forever Pet Rescue will set up time to visit the residence where the cat will potentially be living. This is so we can ensure our cats are going to safe, suitable homes.

Now, you are ready to begin the adoption journey! Here’s what you will need to do and what you can expect:

  1. Take a look at our Adopt a Pet page or our PetFinder page and identify the cat you’d like to adopt.
  2. Fill out our Application to Adopt a Cat. Please be sure to click the “Submit Application” button at the end! The button will disappear if your application has gone through successfully. If you do not hear back within 10 days, please assume that your application was not selected.
  3. If your application is approved, you will receive a call or email to set up a home visit. One of our volunteers will visit the residence where the cat will potentially be living to ensure it is a safe and suitable environment.
  4. If your home is determined to be safe and suitable for a cat, a Foster and Forever volunteer will reach out to you to schedule a meet and greet with the cat you applied for. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to adopt the cat immediately following your meet and greet.
  5. Last step – finalizing the adoption! This is when you will pay your adoption fee(s), sign paperwork, and take your new furry friend to their forever home.
